Snowball Fight

You may be hearing this version of "Jingle Bells" coming from your student. (It makes for some great acting/singing!)

Dashing through the house
'Cause I can't find my left boot
Gotta head outside
This one'll be a beaut
The powder's two feet deep
The whole front lawn is white
We'll stomp and we'll attack and won't come back 'til midnight, OH!

Snowball fight!
Snowball fight!
Join us if you dare
We'll make sure a clump of snow
lands in your underwear!

Snowball fight!
Snowball fight!
Favorite winter sport
We'll pelt until it melts
and never leave our fort!

Happy caroling!

Author Visit

Frank L. Cole came to our school today. He is the author of the Hashbrown Winters series. We were very privileged to listen to him speak about being an author. He was entertaining and funny and encouraged us all to use our imaginations everyday!

Here were some of the questions that 1st-3rd graders had for Mr. Cole...

"What is your favorite color?"
-Green

"What is your second favorite color?"
-Red

"What year where you born?"
-1977

"How do you get the ideas for your characters?"
-I get a lot of the ideas for characters from my real life. I take people that I know and turn them into characters in my books.

"What's your favorite book?"
-I have lots of favorites, but if I had to pick one it would be Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I read it in one day!

"How long did it take you to write your fist book?"
-It took me FIVE years!!! But the next couple I wrote in only a couple of months.

"If you had a favorite number from 1 to infinity, what would it be?"
-I think the number infinity.

Frog and Toad Field Trip

The day had finally come! We were finally going on our field trip to Kingsbury Hall to see the play "A Year With Frog and Toad". We had spent weeks preparing and reading and getting excited about the whole thing. Thankfully, the hour long musical did not disappoint. It was amazing to see kids acting and singing some of the Frog and Toad stories we were familiar with. I think we all had a different favorite part.

Everything went smoothly. The bus was on time. We were at Kingsbury in time. The weather held so we could have lunch at a park!

I know that after it was all over, I was wiped out! I guess that's a sign of a successful trip with second graders.

On the bus...
Perrin and Jarek
Luke and Caleb
Sydney and Matthew
John and Anna
Jackson and Hope
Andrew S and Sam
Halle D. and Kalea
Tristan and Stephen
Nyssa and Aspyn
Hallie P and Madelyn B
Brayden and Ayden
Anij and Maddie A
The trek to Kingsbury...SAFETY FIRST!

Look at us all on the front steps...

Our seats...
(Demonstrating the theatre etiquette we had practiced...)
Lunch at the park...

Veteran's Day

One of our school's favorite traditions is the Veteran's Day assembly. We had practiced singing and signing songs for months! It was so neat to watch the Veteran's as we sang to them. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house!

Raising Our New Flag
The Color Guard from the Base
Our kids signing American Tears

Pumpkin Math

Who knew that pumpkins could be so fun? Look at all of the math investigations we could do with our small pumpkins...

We weighed our pumpkins using a scale and bears...
We were all so surprised to find out that pumpkins float!

Aspyn was comparing her pumpkin to her friend's
We did scientific sketching and labeling of our pumpkins
Andrew used paper clips to measure the circumference of his pumpkin
Jarek measured the height of his pumpkin using cubes

Thanks so much for the gourd donations! It made our Halloween educational and fun!

Days With Lots of Frogs and Toads

After reading Days With Frog and Toad, we made these puppets to help us act like frogs! We listened to music and decided that it sounded like a fly buzzing by! Then the music changed and we went after our imaginary food! So fun!
