A Sassy Reader's Theatre

Kids love having a reason to yell at each other, and this poem by Shel Silverstein gave us the perfect opportunity to do just that! I know your student would love to do this short play with you!

One Two

1: One, two, buckle my shoe.

2,3: Buckle your own shoe!

1: Who said that?

3: We did!

2: What are you doing with those silly buckles on your shoes anyway?

1: Three, four, shut the door.

2: You shut it! You opened it!

1: Errrr...five, six, pick up sticks?

3: Why should we pick them up? Do you think we're your slaves?

2 (Making fun of 1): Buckle my shoe!

3 (Making fun of 1): Shut the door!

2 (Making fun of 1): Pick up sticks!

3: Next thing you'll be telling us to lay them straight.

1: Nine, ten, a big fat....oh, never mind!

Bossy "Arrrgh"

All week we were talking about R-Controlled Vowels, better known as "Bossy R". To make this more fun, we turned Bossy R week into Pirate week as well. Reading funny Pirate stories like David Shannon's How I Became a Pirate and Pirate's Don't Change Diapers gave us plenty of time to grunt, yell, and cheer.

We also learned a new sea chanty called "This Pirate". If you would like to hear your student at his/her piratey best, here are the lyrics:

A Hard Days Work

Look at us on Pajama Day! All so hard at work!

(The kids thought this was the funniest joke to play on you guys!)
